Time, what is it worth?

I find that it is so easy to only value time for what it is doing for me in the moment. I would rather stay up the extra thirty minutes at night then get better sleep.

But when it comes to waking up, I’d much rather sleep in the extra thirty minutes and am usually upset at how early I am waking up.

What is a minute worth to you right now? You cant get it back. If you are like me, you are a very poor judge because of selfish momentary oversight.

One more video, one more story, one more text. Pretty soon here you stand. Getting six hours of sleep with bloodshot eyes and an attitude.

“Five more minutes?” We ask ourselves in the morning after waking up with a headache and sore eyes.

Why is it so hard to see the simple consequences of how we use our time?

For me, looking back if I had invested half the time I played video games into anything valuable I would be in a much better spot then I am now.

That’s just the problem. We know that good time management is extremely important and yet even adequate usage evades us.

So What?

Reluctantly pondering these things I came to a sobering realization. Every moment caries eternal impact. Every moment moves us closer to or farther from the will of God.

The real questions are what do we believe our time is worth? What are you worth? Do you believe that you are loved by God and are called to serve Him? How can we even know what we believe? lets tease it out.

James 2 is very clear that what we believe we will do. Jesus said “From the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” So if you want to know what you believe both about yourself and what God thinks and plans for yourself then look no farther than your day to day life.

I’ve heard it said “tell me what you think about when you have nothing else to think about and ill tell you who you are.” Is it possible that applying this principle to our actions, say maybe “Tell me what you do when you have nothing else to do, and I will tell you who you are.” is more appropriate.

So, Have you looked to scripture to ask God what He says of you?

Do you believe it?

Its so easy to fall into the trap of believing something with our minds but not our hearts. Our hearts are where our beliefs live, not our minds.

Let me encourage you with the prospect of finding out what God has promised you. Go and check out the scriptures for yourself and bask in the promises of God that you didn’t even know you could walk in! Let the upward calling in Christ consume you so that you might pursue Him and only Him!

Let God be true and every man a liar
Amen
